Britz will help boost regional tourism

Posted on Monday, 1 August 2005 @ 3:26:57 PM

Showing a strong commitment to regional tourism in Queensland, THL Rentals opened a new branch in Mackay today, providing Britz & Backpacker vehicles for the growing number of tourists heading north.

Australian sales and marketing manager for Tourism Holdings Limited Simone MacDonald and chief operating officer THL, Chris Rusden, discuss the new Britz venture with Mackay Airport general manager Trevor Heard.

Mackay Councillor Dave Perkins officially opened the branch on behalf of Mackay tourism industry identities Michele and Noel Jackson.

“We are absolutely delighted to open the doors to a completely new location for THL. The entire team at the Mackay branch is committed to providing exceptional service and reliable 2WD and 4WD vehicles that will take customers to Queensland, and beyond,” Michele said.

The Mackay branch ably meets the needs of visitors to the Whitsunday and Airlie Beach area, which is a Mecca for backpackers and tourists. Tourists can now hire a campervan or 4WD from Mackay, to tour the region, filling the 2500 kilometre gap between Brisbane and Cairns, where Britz currently has well-established branches.

Conveniently located on the Bruce Highway en route to the city centre and the airport, holidaymakers can simply pick up their vehicle once their plane lands.

According to Chris Rusden, THL Chief Operating Officer, Queensland is a major tourism destination, and Britz vehicles have always been in high demand in the Brisbane and Cairns branches.

“We constantly strive to meet the needs of our customers, and are always looking at ways of improving our customer service. By opening a branch in Mackay, it means we now offer a more convenient location for holidaymakers wanting to pick up a vehicle in the Mackay-Whitsunday region,” he said.

With self-drive holidays becoming increasingly popular in North Queensland, Britz has extended its partnership agreement with Tourism Queensland (TQ), becoming the major sponsor of TQ’s new website www.driveqld.com.au.

Mackay Airport general manager Trevor Heard said the new Britz branch would enable holidaymakers to fly direct to Mackay to collect their vehicles.

“I’m confident the new branch will be a great success and will offer opportunities for the business to be more strategically located near the airport,” he said.
