Mackay police are examining security camera footage after three vehicles were damaged and ransacked at Mackay Airport on Tuesday night (December 30).
Constable Jacqueline Notley prepares to examine a smashed window of a Nissan Patrol 4WD attacked by vandals at Mackay Airport.
Security cameras captured the 30 minute vandalism spree on film.
The footage shows a man driving what’s believed to be a white Holden VN Commodore in the public car park about 11o’clock on Tuesday night.
He can be seen patrolling the park before breaking into the vehicles.
Police plan to enhance the footage and believe the material will provide investigators with important information. Mackay Port Authority has spent more than a million dollars over the past two years upgrading security at the airport.
The upgrade included 24-hour security camera surveillance of the car park precinct.
“Our security officers and police also conduct regular night patrols of the car park,” airport acting general manager Ray Waters said.
“This person obviously thought these cars would be easy targets, but it’s good to see that the security system we have in place works.”
Mr Waters said the MPA board would soon consider final plans for an additional 75 bay security car park at the airport.
“It’s disappointing when this sort of thing happens, but hopefully people will now realise that the car park is being monitored – and anyone silly enough to vandalise or steal from cars will be caught,” he said. |
