Mackay Airport gets behind the World’s Greatest Shave.

Mackay Airport general manager Trevor Heard gives his clippers a test run as SeaFM morning presenter Chris North, Seven news editor Bianca Stone and Daily Mercury journalist Jim Mulcair prepare to lose their locks in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World's Greatest Shave.

Members of Mackay's leading media groups are losing their locks for cancer.

They have signed up for a 'shave or colour' to help raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual fundraiser – the World's Greatest Shave starting on Thursday.

As a forerunner to the event, Daily Mercury journalist Jim Mulcair and Sea FM DJ Chris North will be parting ways with their loving locks at a special charity event at Mackay Airport on Wednesday. Channel 7 news editor Bianca Stone is a little more attached to her curls but is supporting the event with a 'colour'.

The event will coincide with Virgin Blue's inaugural direct Sydney service that'll touch down in Mackay at 2.40 on Wednesday afternoon.

Virgin Blue is backing the World' Greatest Shave giving away six return tickets to the Harbour City.

The tickets are being split between visitors and passengers. All you have to do to be in the draw is make a small donation and colour your hair at the airport between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the day.

Mackay Airport general manager Trevor Heard said the Mackay Port Authority would donate $5 for every passenger on Wednesday's return leg to Sydney who agreed to colour their hair in support of the World's Greatest Shave. They would also go into a draw for one of three return trips to Sydney.

The MPA has a cheque for $500 – it would be great to see the full amount go to the Leukaemia Foundation to help find a cure for cancer, he said.

I hope the community supports the appeal as three lucky people will also be jetting off to Sydney – courtesy of Virgin Blue.
