Generous air travellers are continuing to offer victims of Tropical Cyclone Larry a helping hand.

Passengers entering the security departure lounge at Mackay Airport are tossing their change into a collection box to help the victims of the ferocious tropical storm that battered Innisfail and surrounding communities on March 20.

Mackay Airport workers kicked off the collection with a $150 donation last week.

Mackay Port Authority communications manager Colin Wilson is hopeful the airport initiative will add at least $2000 to the Premier's Cyclone Relief Appeal. The local appeal already has raised $1758.60.

Travellers have been more than happy to give - they know it's for a good cause and every cent will go to those in need, he said.

People have been deeply touched by the enormity of the devastation and stories of survival.

One little traveller asked her mother for her pocket money as they passed into the security departure lounge. She had a huge smile as she dropped $10 into the collection box -- the man following donated $50.

It certainly says a lot about the Australian spirit and our desire help our neighbours.

Mr Wilson said the collection would continue until the end of April.

Donations can also be lodged at the Commonwealth Bank using the relief appeal account 064-013-1000-6800.
