MPA claims record days without lost time injury

Mackay Airport has laid claims to a Queensland record of 2000 consecutive days without a lost time injury.

Staff from the Mackay Port Authority's workforce - employed on projects at the airport - passed the 2000-day milestone earlier this month.

Workplace health and safety manager John Kraft said the record was a clear indication of workers' commitment to safety.

"It is really a fantastic achievement - we're claiming the record until someone can prove otherwise," he said. "This equates to almost five and a half years without a lost time injury."

"The record has been achieved through the constant review and monitoring of standards and procedures in collaboration with the workforce and also the efforts of our hard working WHS committee."

Mr Kraft said workers from the sea and airport had contributed to the milestone. Employees covered a wide range of duties including maintenance, security, safety, gardening and construction.

He said the airport's performance had helped the Mackay Port Authority secure significant concessions on its overall Workcover premiums.
