MPA seeks owners of airport lost property

Posted on 19 Jul 2006 by mackayports Mackay Airport acting terminal services manager Gary Riches with a selection of keys handed in at the airport.

If you can't find the keys to your car or front door - possibly the Mackay Port Authority has them.

Mackay Airport is attempting to reunite owners with a variety of items found at the airport over the past few months.

In fact, since the start of the year more than 300 entries have been logged in the airport 'lost property' book.

Acting terminal services manager Gary Riches is amazed at the number of items handed in each week.

We are currently holding a variety of jewellery including rings, bracelets and necklaces, he said.

There's also an assortment of keys - everything from car to house keys - someone must own them?

We keep all items for a minimum of three months. If we can't locate the owner the items are donated to Lifeline.

Generally, we have a pretty good 'strike rate'. More than 70 per cent of items find their way back to their owners and over the years these have included wallets, watches, rings and mobile telephones - we even found a set of dentures once.

Mr Riches is encouraging people to contact Mackay Airport if they have lost items while at the airport.

All people have to do is identify them - and we'll gladly hand them over, he said.
