Mackay Port Authority Record passenger growth Article first published on Wednesday, 7 January 2004 @ 1:09:05 PM |
Mackay Port Authority has achieved another milestone with more than 400 000 passengers, passing through Mackay Airport in 2003.
The airport is experiencing record growth, handling a total of 400 118 passengers last year.

“This is a tremendous achievement with passenger growth increasing by 20.5 per cent last year,’ acting airport general manager Ray Waters said.
Passenger throughput increased from 332 097 in 2002 to 400 118 in 2003.
Mr Waters said the milestone followed the Mackay Airport being judged the best regional airport in Australia in November 2002.
“If current trend continues, we can expect to handle between 415 000 and 425 000 this financial year,” he said.
“It’s clear that travellers have embraced the introduction of low cost carrier Virgin to Mackay.
“Air fares are becoming even more affordable and people are taking advantage of budget priced seats.
“It would appear that the introduction of Qantas’ low cost carrier Jetstar will make air travel even more appealing.”
Jetstar executives will meet with the Mackay Port Authority next week to discuss potential services.
Tickets for major Jetstar routes will go on sale next month. The new airline is expected to start services in May.
