Mackay Airport workers are celebrating a milestone today after recording 1250 injury-free work days.
Mackay Port Authority chairman John Taylor said the record was a fantastic achievement.
The previous record of days without time lost through a work-related injury stood at 722 days.
“It’s a record the workforce should be proud,” Mr Taylor said.
MPA Workplace Health and Safety manager, John Kraft, said the record had been achieved through the constant review and monitoring of standards and procedures in collaboration with workers.
“We have a workforce committed to safety, but we are not about to rest on our laurels,” he said.
“Next month, the MPA will embark on a comprehensive safety awareness program targeting managers and supervisors.”
Mr Kraft said credit should also be directed at members of the MPA’s hard working and dedicated WHS committee.
Airport general manager Trevor Heard said the airport’s staff covered a wide range of duties including maintenance, security, gardening and construction and frequently included workers from the seaport.
Meantime, Mr Heard said work on the airport’s 90 bay public and staff car park was progressing well.
“The project’s running to schedule and should be completed within about three weeks.
“We will then move on to the next phase of the project which includes an additional 125 bay security and public car park.
“Tenders for this project will close at the end of the month, with work to start in May.”
