The Mackay Port Authority has reopened the southern break wall today, after the harbour area was battered by three metre seas and 40 knot winds earlier this week.

Communications manager Colin Wilson said the wild weather caused only minor damage to the breakwater road.

Workers have been busy clearing debris and rocks from the roadway this morning, he said.

The MPA closed the break wall to vehicles and pedestrians on Tuesday after huge waves whipped up by gale force winds started dumping rocks onto the road way.

"It was just too dangerous to keep the roadway open," Mr Wilson said.
