Local surfers and the Mackay Port Authority are joining forces to 'wipe out' vandalism at a popular board riding and picnicking beach at North Mackay.
A group of more than 80 people vandalised signs and fence railing and snapped palm trees at the North Wall car park recently.
The destruction has angered the Mackay board riding community with spokesman Michael De Pinto encouraging all members of the community to protect the North Wall beach area.
This is a very important beach for surfers and this kind of behaviour is just unacceptable,
he said.
The North Wall is probably the most consistent place (for surfing). We love this area. The port authority maintains the facilities here and it would be disappointing if we lost access to this area because of the actions of a minority. I can only encourage people to immediately report any acts of vandalism to police or the port authority.
Mackay Port Authority sea port general manager Scott Keane said the area was covered by surveillance cameras and information would be passed onto police.
Mr Keane said the MPA had just replaced a number of palm trees that had been damaged.
