MPA seeks comments on land use plan

Posted on 07 Mar 2007 by mackayports

The Mackay Port Authority is seeking public feedback on its comprehensive land use plans covering the seaport and airport.

The plans will help the MPA better manage its strategic port lands and will clearly identify preferred uses and activities in a number of key precincts at both ports.

The land use plans are a culmination of a detailed consultation and review process involving the release of a Statement of Proposals in September 2005.

MPA Planning and Environment manager Bill Boylson said feedback from the Statement of Proposals had been integrated into the current plans.

"We will use these land use documents to assess future development being proposed on strategic port lands - it’s a bit like the council's planning scheme," he said.

Mr Boylson said the land use plans would not negate the need for developers to obtain necessary approvals for project to proceed.

The plans cover a total of 1070 ha of MPA controlled land at the airport and seaport.

Mr Boylson is encouraging interested parties to review the plans and provide the MPA with additional feedback.
