Scott offers a helping hand
Posted on Tuesday, 17 August 2004 @ 3:12:15 PM

Mackay Port Authority’s environmental manager Scott Keane went back to the classroom today to give a group of Year 12 marine studies students from Holy Spirit College a helping hand.

Examining water samples at the marina boat ramp are marine studies teacher Kelly Goodingham, students Blake Thompson and Jasmine Rau, and Mackay Port Authority environmental manager Scott Keane.

Mr Keane assisted the budding marine biologists in taking water samples at the Mackay Marina.

Mr Keane also outlined the port authority’s marine pollution response capabilities and responsibilities.

“Water quality is an important part of their two-year marine studies course,” he said.

‘The MPA is one of a few organisations that undertake regular water quality monitoring – so we are able to go through the process with them in conjunction with our consultants Connell Wagner.”

Mr Keane said the MPA was happy to assist other schools with similar projects.
