More than 200 competitors have made the inaugural Life Stream Triathlon Festival in Mackay an outstanding success.

It was one of the biggest triathlon events in North Queensland this year. The team entries numbered 41 with 20 of these teams representing mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin.
Mackay Port Authority chairman John Taylor said the MPA was proud to support the event and was confident the triathlon would continue to grow in years to come.
"Congratulations go to everyone who competed – just to finish a race like this is a great achievement." Mr Taylor said.
The Mackay Port Authority Encouragement Award went to disabled athlete Peter Knowles, who breast-stroked his way over the kilometre course in 40 minutes. The individual Triathlon was taken out by Townsville's Max Fegan from current Australian champion Courtney Atkinson. Atkinson, who started off a five minute handicap, crossed the line only 10 seconds behind but in net time was 4min 50 seconds up on Fegan.
The Foxleigh Mine female event was won by Mackay athlete Wendy Christie.
First team from the mines was Hail Creek which is operated by Pacific Coal -- one of the events sponsors. The major fundraising award went to Stephen Robinson from Foxleigh who raised $5200.
Special mention also to BMA Saraji that put in $4500 to fundraising and Cap Coal, through its three teams, raised close to $1000. The major random draw was one by Robert Monaci who is with Thiess and will jet off with his wife to Hawaii in the not to distant future. The Mountain Bike random draw was won by Brendan Smith - one of our participants from the Life Stream Aquathon for people with a disability.
The results from the triathlon will be sent to all participants soon and photos from the event will be able to be viewed by going to www.lifestream.org.au and follow the links. |
