Year 11 building and construction students from North Mackay High School recently completed two "suggestion boxes" that will be positioned in the airport terminal.

Mackay Airport general manager Trevor Heard said the airport was judged the best in regional Australia in 2002.

"It's important we continue to improve services and facilities and to this end we are seeking community feedback on how we can do better," he said. Mr Heard said the majority of comments and complaints centred on car parking and baggage handling.

"A detailed review of our parking facilities is underway. We are looking at introducing short term and long term parking precincts.

We are also speaking with the airlines and the baggage handling agents on how to improve this service," he said. Mr Heard is encouraging people to have their say when they visit the airport.

"We want to hear the good and the bad," he said.

Mr Heard praised the craftsmanship of the Year 11 students who designed and constructed the suggestions boxes for the airport. Manual arts teacher Mark Galea said the project provided the students with a number of challenges.

Mr Galea said students who completed the Year 11 and 12 building and construction course would be issued with a Certificate One. This certificate prepares students for the workforce and reduces a normal four year apprenticeship to three years.
